A Stone from Korea is an on-going photo series developed over the past decade. In this project I portrait a small stone from my hometown, which my mother sent me from Korea, in northern American forests.

The photos focus on the great stillness of landscape even with the subtle addition of a stone. Relocating a Korean stone to American landscapes creates layered topography; the integration complicates our view.

The simple and poetic action of laying down a Korean stone in these new environments awakens our intimate relationship to place and a sense of belonging that transcends political lines on a map.
